Wood Job is a 2014 Japanese comedy film directed and written by Shinobu Yaguchi and based on the novel Kamusari naa Nichijo (Shen Qu NaanaaRi Chang ) by Shion Miura. The film stars Shota Itani and Masami Nagasawa. The main theme song is “Happiest Fool”, sung by Maia Hirasawa. The film was released on the 10th of May, 2014 and was shown in its North American premiere at LA Eigafest 2014.

Story revolves around Yuki Hirano who is who is played by Shota Mosttani. After failing his university entrance tests and being rejected by his lover and his girlfriend, he decides to enroll in a forester’s training program after spotting a gorgeous female model (Nagasawa) on an advertisement leaflet. He’s determined to keep going, even though he would prefer to leave. There are many others who drop out. While initially skeptical, the village takes the newcomer in as a member of their own.

He soon realizes the task is more difficult than he anticipated and works with the hard-working supervisor Hideaki. Yuki grows to respect the forest and the culture of the village, opening his eyes to the world beyond a large city. He pursues the woman in the pamphlet, whose beauty prompted him to make the move. The film ends with the Onbashira Festival which involves riding huge logs down the hill.
